This tradition comes from Giovanni Battista Riccioli, who started it in 1651 with his student, Francesco Maria Grimaldi. Since 1919, assignment of the names of planetary features is regulated by the International Astronomical Union. This registry was launched in November 2021, 370 years later. No one regulates the planetary roads.
